Overview

Teaching Improvement is a two day course covering all things education, including a grounding in educational theories, the opportunity to consider your “teaching philosophy”, planning and structuring high quality teaching sessions, and delivering feedback to your learners.

On day two of this course, attendees will deliver a 10 minute “microteach” on a non-clinical topic to test out what they have learned and receive valuable feedback on their own teaching style. This interactive course will get attendees thinking differently about how they approach teaching in future.

Aim

To promote an excellent standard of teaching at UHL.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • Consider characteristics of effective teaching and how/why this impacts learning
  • Discuss how to effectively engage with learners
  • Apply a structure to teaching
  • Draft your own teaching philosophy
  • Discuss aspects of effective feedback and demonstrate this during the microteach
  • Deliver a microteach showing implementation of principles covered on day 1

Suitability

Open to all who are keen to develop themselves as a medical educator.
