Frequently Asked Questions

All Foundation doctors at UHL should have a named clinical and educational supervisor. Clinical supervisors are allocated a service level so please speak to your JDA for advice on this. Educational supervisors are allocated at a programme level. You should therefore contact our Foundation Programme Co-ordinator or speak to any other member of the education team.

Jobs cannot be swapped in FY1 however the Foundation School does allow swaps in FY2 by following their swaps policy. Information will be sent to trainees before the swap process opens but for more information please look on the HEE East Midlands website.

You can also apply for the Inter-Foundation School Transfer if you are a current trainee or if you have been allocated to a foundation school and your circumstances have changed since you originally applied. This is based on the premise that you are no longer able to manage your training and your caring/health responsibilities in your allocated/current location. The window to apply for an IFST is between March and April every year.

It is important that your portfolio is an accurate reflection. If you notice there is something incorrect in your portfolio, or you cannot see your supervisors, please email the foundation team who can get this updated for you.
At UHL you will have access to a number of educational opportunities. As Foundation Doctors you will have access to regular programme teaching that focuses on the curriculum. In addition to this the Trust was one of the early adopters of the self-development time (SDT) and we now ensure this for all Foundation Doctors. There are other educational opportunities within the Trust such as research, QI projects, leadership projects and other teaching to name a few.
