The CST programme in the East Midlands is based in both large teaching and district general hospitals.The programme consists of 6x 4 month rotations in:

  • General Surgery
  • Trauma and Orthopaedics
  • Urology
  • Plastic Surgery
  • Paediatric Surgery
  • ENT/Otolaryngology

UHL is a modern training centre with most specialties acting as referral centres and boasting modern operative techniques such as laparoscopic and robotic surgery, and complex endovascular interventions to name a few.
CST at UHL benefits from a wide and varied simulation programme in orthopaedics, general and vascular surgery to name a few. The Trust is undergoing exciting changes with the development of a dedicated Simulation Centre which will act as a combined hub for simulation training and will be host to a range of low- and high-fidelity simulation systems.
We have a fantastic MRCS education programme that is combined with Health Education East Midlands North and is comprised of small group sessions, anatomy dissection room tutorials, interview and exam guided preparations. There are also workshops on communication skills, CV building, research and presentation skills. The education programme culminates in an annual audit day whereby trainees are encouraged to present their audit to a combined deanery panel.
