JUNIOR DOCTOR INDUCTION
Junior Doctors Induction happens three times a year at the time of changeover; August, December & April. All new trainees are required to attend a corporate induction and those returning to the Trust are only required to attend a corporate induction if they have been absent from the Trust for more than 12months.
Foundation Year 1 Doctor Shadowing – FY1 shadowing is an arrangement where a prospective doctor observes an existing Foundation Year 1 doctor (FY1) undertaking the usual activities required of their role before taking over the role themselves. It helps forthcoming FY1 doctors become more familiar with working practices and hospital systems. Shadowing is compulsory for all incoming FY1 trainees.
2017 Induction: This years FY1 shadowing commences on Thursday 28th July 2017 at The Big Shed
Induction for all other grades – Induction for all other junior doctors, as a rule of thumb, happens on the first Wednesday in August. Human Resources will send out information to those required to attend induction approximately 6 weeks before the induction date. For more information check out these pages on our Trust website.
2017 Induction: This years induction for all other grades commences on Wednesday 2nd August 2017
Doctors in Training Committee
UHL has a very active Doctors in Training Committee (DiTC). The remit of the committee is to act on the best interests of the junior doctor body and has an influence throughout the Trust. The committee is formed of junior doctors (mix of grades and specialties), representatives from Department of Clinical Education and HR.

Induction
Every junior doctor must attend a Corporate Induction if they have not worked within the Trust for more than 12 months. Every trainee, regardless of when they last worked at UHL, should receive a local induction within your department area. All trainees are expected to keep up-to-date with their statutory and mandatory training.
Gripes
Junior doctors: Is something bugging you? Have you got ideas about improving patitent safety. Let us know – visit INsite and search for the ‘Gripes Reporting Tool’. This tool does not replace the Datix system. If an adverse event or near miss occurs, a Datix report must be filed simultaneously.
